LI Man Who Had Trouble Keeping Foot On Break During Sobriety Checkpoint Charged With Dwai

A man with a previous DWI conviction who was unable to stay at a complete stop at a Suffolk County Sheriff’s sobriety checkpoint was arrested for allegedly driving while under the influence of drugs.

Shortly after midnight on Saturday, Oct. 26, Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Riverhead resident Rashawn Lamb, 34, after he drove through a sobriety checkpoint on Sunrise Highway in Southampton.

According to the Suffolk County Sheriff, Lamb was repeatedly told to put his car in park, and he had trouble keeping his foot on the break and continued to roll forward while being ordered to stop. Lamb proceeded to fail multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and he was taken into custody.

Further investigation into Lamb found that he had a prior DWAI conviction in 2011 after he refused to submit to a breathalyzer.

Lamb was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and aggravated unloosened operation of a motor vehicle. He was released and scheduled to appear back in court at a later date to respond to the charges.
